LS West alum one win away from a national title tonight

Former Lee's Summit West Titan Drew Dickerson takes the field tonight as the Oklahoma Sooners face North Carolina in a winner take all Game 3 of the College World Series. Dickerson, a sophomore outfielder, is the only former Titan in Omaha for this year's championship. Oklahoma is chasing its first national title since 1994, and first pitch is 6 p.m. We'll be watching right along with you.

World Cup fever hits Green Street, and it's not done yet

Two weeks into the World Cup, Futbol Fridays at Green Street Marketplace have turned into one of the best community gatherings of the summer. Visitors from Argentina hosted by Lee's Summit Rotary have mixed with St. Michael the Archangel soccer players and hundreds of local fans for watch parties complete with mechanical bulls and petting zoos. The next one is this Friday, and it just keeps getting better.

Council debates planned senior living project, hears proposed comms overhaul

A 172 unit senior living development on Lakewood Way is still in limbo after a tied council vote left the project's future unresolved. Neighbors packed the meeting with traffic concerns, and council members also got their first look at a major rework of how the city communicates with residents. Nothing is settled yet on either front.

LSR7 board passes preliminary budget, opposes Amendment 5

The LSR7 Board of Education passed its preliminary budget 6-1 last week, with one member raising concerns about a lack of outside input. The board also passed a resolution opposing Missouri Amendment 5, citing a possible $27 million hit to the district if it passes in August. Voters will decide that one in less than two months.

Wednesday and Saturday bring the Downtown Lee's Summit Farmers Market back to its usual spot, and Friday's Fourth Fridays Art Walk presented by Budget Blinds lights up downtown starting at 5 p.m. That same night you've got your choice of a Scotland World Cup Watch Party at Llywelyn's Pub or the FREE Soccer Watch Party Celebration at Paragon Star, and Friday evening also brings Music in the Park at William B. Howard Station Park. Cap the weekend with Celebrate! America at 250, a Saturday night fireworks show at the Pavilion at John Knox Village sponsored by Mike and Nancy Roark.
